GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Specialist will deliver curriculum based program to at risk youth in high school setting and will establish and facilitate parent/guardian support group. This position also includes curriculum revision and case management to support the Rites of Passage program's goal and agency's mission. This position works collaboratively with the Renton School District , various community partners and staff of the organization. This is a full time, 35 hour per week, position.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Parent Specialist (17.5hours):

  • Establish, facilitate and coordinate multiple monthly meetings for Rites of Passage parents
  • Contact parents regarding support group and other resources available
  • Track students that transfer schools to alternative schools by meeting with students individually and providing resources and services as needed
  • Provide culturally relevant and culturally sensitive services

Youth Development Specialist (17.5 hours):

  • Provide case management services, including outreach, resource referral and other school based services to youth participants and their families
  • Conduct curriculum based group facilitation and activities within school settings
  • Provide individual mentoring and follow up services to program participants and their families
  • Consult with youth, families, schools and /or community contacts to effectively monitor participant's progress
  • Collect and maintain outcome data for project and client files. Provide report data as needed
  • Assist with program revision to reflect emerging community issues and current youth culture
  • Participate in agency and Family Center staff meetings and other meetings pertinent to project participants
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

 

The Youth Development and Parent Specialist is supervised by the Program Director. It is expected that the Youth Development and Parent Specialist will work somewhat independently, adhering to the Renton School District calendar to set general work priorities.

A schedule of supervision will be established with the Program Director.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, teamwork and curriculum development and implementation.
  • Experience facilitating parent/guardian engagement
  • Demonstrated success in working with youth at risk, particularly in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with youth, parents, schools and general community.
  • BA degree in human services, psychology, education or related field.
  • Strong ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Washington State Registered Counselor.
  • Washington State drivers license and proof of insurance.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • At least 2 years experience in youth development work.
  • Experience working in a non-profit human services setting.
  • Experience with outcome based evaluation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES

 

Work is performed in an office setting at the agency's Family Center site and at various schools within the Renton School District . Some travel to off site locations is required. The Youth Development and Parent Specialist must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Hand eye coordination and fine manipulation skills are necessary to operate computers and office machinery.

This job will call for evening and possible weekend work hours.

Internship Opportunities

Child & Family Therapists / Case Managers / Youth Development Specialists
RAYS offers internship opportunities with a paid stipend for students who are enrolled in accredited university programs. Both master's level and bachelor's level students receive regular individual supervision. All internship experiences will likely include providing services both agency-based and within our school-based services program. Internships offered include the following: Child and Family Therapist Intern (master's level), Case Manager Intern (bachelor's level), Youth Development Specialist (bachelor's level). All experiences may include providing a combination of individual and group services.
